● Discover the charm of PANGRAM, a beloved bread destination in Osaka's Tennoji neighborhood!
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tennoji, there's a bakery that's been generating serious buzz among bread lovers. Its name: PANGRAM.
The moment you step inside, the fragrance of freshly baked loaves — each one carefully crafted by hand every morning — wraps around you. From the exterior to the interior, every detail is tied together by a refined, cohesive design.
It's the kind of place that makes your heart skip a beat the second you walk through the door. Let me tell you all about what makes this spot so special.
■A Happy Little Stop, Just Minutes from the Station
▲The stylish storefront that comes into view as you walk along the elevated railway
The shop sits about a 5-minute walk from Tennoji Station on the JR Osaka Loop Line, right alongside the railway viaduct — incredibly easy to get to.
▲Staff will carry strollers up to the second floor for you — a wonderfully thoughtful touch!
The ground-floor retail area displays an array of golden-brown baked goods laid out like jewels. Head upstairs and you'll find an airy, open eat-in space on the second floor.
There are counter seats and table seats, plus power outlets throughout, so it's all too easy to linger over your bread and lose track of time. The whole setup is designed with comfort in mind.
■Eating In on the Second Floor
▲"Butter Croissant" ¥300, "Shio An Butter" ¥260 (both prices exclude tax)
On this visit I tried two of the shop's signature items: the Butter Croissant and the Shio An Butter. One of the perks of the second-floor eat-in space is a toaster that's free for customers to use — so you can re-bake your bread exactly to your liking.
▲Re-baking really brings out the dough's texture and the ingredients' aroma
First up, the Butter Croissant. One bite and those delicate layers shatter with a satisfying crunch, releasing a rich, deeply savory surge of butter from within. Despite its generous size, the texture is remarkably light — I genuinely couldn't believe how airy it felt.
Next, the Shio An Butter — a perennial crowd-pleaser with a devoted fan base. The pairing of elegantly sweet red bean paste with deep, indulgent butter is nothing short of sinful perfection. The two flavors complement each other so well that I found myself eating in blissful silence, barely coming up for air. That flawless balance of sweet and salty left both my stomach and my soul completely satisfied.
▲The shop closes once items sell out, so arriving on the earlier side is your best bet
One more thing worth knowing: PANGRAM also does a roaring trade in nama donuts — those super-soft, pillowy fried dough treats that have been trending lately. They were unfortunately sold out on my visit, but a staff member told me that on weekends they often sell out before noon.
If you've got your heart set on one, aim to arrive right when they open at 10:00, and definitely no later than midday.
I'll definitely be back for a second attempt! Whether it's the outstanding quality of the food or the beautifully curated space itself, PANGRAM has a way of making everyone who walks through the door feel genuinely happy. Come by and treat yourself to something special for both the stomach and the soul.
